BAS Programme operate in Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, FYR Macedonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Serbia & Montenegro (including Kosovo), Slovenia and Uzbekistan.
BAS Moldova started its operations in September 2005, as of January 1, 2009 the Programme has committed 139 projects, of which 116 projects were already completed.
- BAS clients by geographic location
BAS has an increased focus on working with SMEs in regional and rural areas due to the large disparities between development of regions and Chisinau. Currently the number of managed projects is distributed 46% / 54% between regional and Chisinau BAS beneficiaries and BAS is increasing its regional presence.

A special attention is paid to the development of non-agricultural businesses in rural areas and/or high value added agriculture related businesses.
- BAS clients by type of industry
Currently, the projects in wholesale and retail trade sector account for 30.9% from total approved projects, being followed by food and beverages industry which holds 26.6% from total. It is worth to mention that 60.4% from the total number of projects are services providing SMEs. Food and beverages accounts for 67.3% of all manufacturing companies, while wood processing/furniture, construction/engineering and chemical/pharmaceutical, glass/plastic production companies represent altogether 27.3% from total number of beneficiaries. The strong demand from these particular industries is in line with the relative high number of companies active in this sector.
As regards services sector, 51.2% of the companies providing services are engaged in retail and distribution, 8.3% in electronics and information technologies; 7.1% in media and communication, 6.0% in transport services, 4.8% - provide tourism services.

- BAS clients by type of advice required
The most solicited consulting services are the implementation of computerized financial-management information systems (46%), market analysis and planning (23%), and engineering studies (20.1%), accounting altogether 89.1%, demonstrate that the SMEs are investing resources in their growth by developing and improving their production and sales capacities.
The fact that Moldova is trying to diversify its customer base not only on local and traditional CIS markets but also towards Western Europe and other overseas markets is confirmed by the increasing number of applications for implementation of Quality Management systems.

- BAS clients by enterprise size
SMEs are vital for attracting the population into economic activity, creating new jobs, encouraging entrepreneurship, regional development and poverty reduction. Smaller enterprises tend to be able to take advantage of market opportunities more quickly than larger ones and thus contribute immensely to the competitiveness of the economy.

More than 65% of BAS Programme clients are companies employing less than 50 employees; this is an encouraging sign which indicates the companies have great potential for growth.
